Getting Prepared for Doing
Rainy Day Crafts with Your Children
If it is raining out and your kids have nothing to do maybe you
should try doing some rainy day crafts with them.
It does not matter whether you are a skilled artist or if you
failed finger painting, these crafts are intended to help occupy
your children and enjoy some good quality time with them. The key
to having a successful craft day is being prepared before it
actually rains.
Getting Your Rainy Day Crafts Kit Together
When preparing your kit you should know that it does not need to
be elaborate or really expensive, you just need to get some basic
supplies so that you children can let their imaginations go wild.
One of the first things you should get is a storage container for
your supplies. This will keep them organized and in one place so
that when you need them you don't need to search the entire house
to find them.
Then start getting your supplies together. Things that you
should include are age appropriate scissors, some white glue, and
some colored construction paper. Just those three items right there
will help you keep your child busy for hours. To further add to
their artist abilities you might want to consider adding crayons,
markers, or finger paints. You will need to decide which are
appropriate for your child's age. Next maybe add some pipe
cleaners, Popsicle sticks, glitter and maybe some stickers. From
there you and your children can create whatever comes to mind.
Rainy Day Crafts Books
If you are not comfortable trying to be creative on your own,
try purchasing a craft book. You can find lots of ideas in them.
When trying to decide which book to choose here are some things to
keep in mind. First make sure that the crafts you will be doing are
age appropriate. You want your child to be active and creative; you
don't want your child watching you be creative. Make sure the book
also includes good photos along with their instructions. Seeing
what the finished project is suppose to look like makes it much
easier to create. The last thing to look for is a list of supplies
needed to create the project. The last thing you want to do it get
half way through the project and realize that you are missing the
necessary supplies to complete the craft.
Protect Your Belongings
One thing you should make sure of before you begin your crafts
is that you have properly protected anything that you don't want
ruined. Nothing takes the joy out of rainy day crafts as an
accident that ruins a piece of furniture or clothing. So first
dress both you and your children in clothing that can get paint,
glue or anything else on it. Next protect the surface where you
will be working. Most of the time a vinyl table cloth is adequate
to protect your flooring and your table.
A rainy day does not have to cause tension and boredom in your
home. Instead make it an opportunity to engage your child in
creative activities. Completing rainy day crafts
together gives you a great way to see the creative side of your
child and have some quality time together.
